AN INVENTORY OF THE BIBLIOGRAPHIES, DIRECTORIES, AND ARCHIVE OF
FOLK CULTURE FINDING AIDS PREPARED BY THE AMERICAN FOLKLIFE CENTER
In response to the many queries it receives from the public
and scholarly communities, the American Folklife Center maintains
a file of bibliographies and related lists covering about two
hundred areas and subjects in the fields of folklore, folk music,
and ethnomusicology. The majority of these listings have been
compiled over the past 25 years by Joseph C. Hickerson, the
Center's Head of acquisitions, and by a succession of interns.
The bibliographies are generally selected and unannotated, and
only on certain subjects are they comprehensive.
Please note that some of the following reference and finding
aids are available in FTP form in the directory of research aids.
Copies of those not yet available online may be obtained at no
charge by writing to the Reference Librarian, American Folklife
Center, Library of Congress, Washington, DC 20540-8100.
